Recall that on assumption of duty, the newly inaugurated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Tuesday had meeting with the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele and the Group Chief Executive Officer, of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, Mr. Mele Kyari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
It was gathered that the agenda of the meeting was centered on the removal of fuel subsidies, the attendant fuel scarcity, the issue of unification of foreign exchange, and the recent Naira Redesign among others
President Tinubu his inaugural speech on Monday announced the removal of oil subsidy, stating that the regime of oil subsidy is gone.
The announcement immediately caused panic buying and subsequent shutting down filling stations and lengthy queues.
The Chief Executive, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, Mr. Farouk Ahmed, whose agency regulates sector activities, is yet to make official statement on the new price regime.
