Electoral Violence: IGP Directs Commissioners Of Police To Quicken Investigation Of Cases, Submit Case Files To INEC For Prosecution

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, on Monday, directed all the commissioners of police in charge of State Commands, to make sure they quickened their process of investigations in all cases of violations of the 2022 Electoral Act, in the February 25th 2023, presidential and national Assembly elections.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, on Monday, directed all the commissioners of police in charge of State Commands, to make sure they quickend their process of investigations in all cases of violations of the 2022 Electoral Act, in the February 25th 2023, presidential and national Assembly elections.
The IGP, ordered the Commissioners to quickly roundoff their cases, and immidietely handover the case files to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for prosecution.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Monday, said  the IGP gave the instruction at the tasked Strategic Police Managers, an action plan to engage stakeholders in their respective jurisdictions through town hall meetings and other viable avenues.
He explained that the meeting was in a bid to ensure all-inclusive election security management and accord Nigerians benefits and leverage of active participation, to achieve free, fair, and credible Gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly elections on 18th March, 2023, 
 
"The Inspector-General of Police has therefore urged well-meaning members of the public to collaborate with the Police and other law enforcement agencies tasked with election security management, to ensure a hitch-free security architecture for all and sundry particularly the electorates, accredited observers, INEC officials and materials so that all citizens can exercise their franchise without molestation, harassment and security threats." He said.
