Anambra Police Debunks DSS Involvement in Ogidi Killing

The Anambra state Police Command has debunked reports in some news outlets (Freshnews not involved) alleging that operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, were involved in the shooting and subsequent murder of a middle aged man in Ogidi on Wednesday, March 16. 

The Command made the disclaimer in a release issued by its spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Friday.

The statement noted that the unfortunate incident was the handiwork of a member of the Vigilante group manning the area who is already in the Command's custody for further investigations. 

"Attention of Anambra State Police Command has been drawn to a misleading story in the Punch Newspaper Online and other mediums purporting that security agents from Department of State Services were responsible for the murder of a middle aged man in Ogidi on 16th March, 2023. 

"The Command owes a duty to the public to correct the erroneous report," the statement noted, adding that, 

"On receiving the report at about 0200hrs, the Police moved in swiftly and effected arrest of the assailant who was found with a Pump Action Gun." 

While also assuring the community that investigations are in progress, the Commissioner of Police temporarily in the state on election duties, Aderemi Adeoye, thanked the traditional ruler and youths of the community for maintaining peace. 

According to the CP, the command will always protect their fundamental human rights of the people.
