The Ondo State Police Command on January 9, 2026, arrested two suspected cattle theft along the Ipele–Ifon axis of the State
The suspects were arrested by the operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Section of the Command while on routine patrol. The operatives intercepted two suspicious individuals who were later identified as Adamu Ilyasu, aged 25 years, and Ibrahim Sulaiman, 22 years.

Ondo State Command, in a statement on Tuesday, 20 January, 2026, in a statement said thorough search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of the sum of ₦67,500, in cash which they could not satisfactorily account for.
“The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it has recorded another significant operational success with the arrest of two suspects in connection with cattle theft
“Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the suspects, Adamu Ilyasu, confessed to stealing two cows belonging to his father, which he sold to a buyer yet to be identified. Further confessional statements by the suspects revealed their involvement in cattle theft from various Fulani herdsmen over a period exceeding three years, with the stolen cattle sold within and outside Ondo State.
“The suspects also disclosed the names and locations of their accomplices. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to identify, apprehend, and prosecute all those involved upon the conclusion of the investigation.” He said.
According to him, the Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has commended the strategic leadership and sustained support of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, noting that the ongoing reforms and technological innovations introduced by the IGP have continued to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness across Ondo State.
“CP Adebowale Lawal reassures members of the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating criminal elements wherever they may flee, emphasizing that such individuals will be relentlessly pursued and made to face the full weight of the law.
“The Commissioner of Police further urges parents and guardians to instill values of integrity, discipline, and hard work in their wards, noting that honest living remains the only sustainable path to success. He also calls on residents of Ondo State to continue providing credible and actionable information to the Police, as the security of lives and property remains a collective responsibility.” He said.
