The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, commissioned and formally opened the newly constructed Affa Police Division in Affa Community, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. He described the establishment of the Division as part of his sustained commitment to expanding police presence nationwide, bringing policing closer to the people, and ensuring that the security, safety, and general policing needs of Nigerians, particularly those in rural communities, are adequately met.
Represented at the occasion by the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, the IGP noted that the Division is a deliberate and strategic intervention aimed at bridging existing policing gaps in Affa Community and across the entire Udi axis of the State. He appealed to community leaders and residents to provide the Division with moral, material, and logistical support to enable officers and men to effectively commence operations without delay.
The IGP further charged the pioneer Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and personnel of the Division to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, respect the fundamental rights of citizens, and conduct themselves with integrity at all times. He urged them to be firm, courageous, and proactive in the discharge of their duties, while exercising emotional intelligence, restraint, and social sensitivity in their interactions with members of the public. The IGP also cautioned officers to desist from all forms of financial impropriety or conduct capable of bringing disrepute to the Force, including the practice commonly referred to as “crying down credit,” which is strongly frowned upon in the Nigeria Police Force.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by top government functionaries, including the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu, and the Chairman of Udi Local Government Area, Hon. Hyginus Agu. Others in attendance were traditional rulers, community leaders, other critical stakeholders, and senior police officers.
