Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa confirmed in a ceremony organized to formally welcome back home some Nigerian returnees from Libya after they arrived Port-Harcourt from Libya last week Saturday that the state Government is committed to the rehabilitation and re-integration of returnees.

The first batch with 80 of them in number arrived Delta State same day will be taken care of since then until they are ready to unite with their families.

They have been urged to put those experiences behind them and look forward to a new lease of life by taking advantage of the various job creation programmes initiated by the state government

The returnees were full of regrets but thankful for surviving all the hard times in Libya as they gather for a pep talk with the state government who on its own part is leaving nothing to chance by ensuring they are rehabilitated and given a new sense of living.

The governor represented by the Commissioner Special Duties, Mr Ernest Ogwezzy confirms their names have been collated for possible enrolment into the state government’s skill acquisition program

“It is therefore important that you drop your addresses and phone numbers. I urge all of you to enrol in the government’s skill and entrepreneurial through your local government offices in order to fast-track your re-integration into the society”

Eager to take up the challenge of starting afresh, some of them narrate their experiences while in Libya

“Some of us were kidnapped and only three of us survived it and the other ones are dead,” one of them said

“My journey started from Benin before we eventually crossed the border to Libya. Out of all of us who embarked on that journey, I see just myself as some of us were badly injured and others killed” another confessed

According to the state government, many more of these returnees are expected back into the state in batches and subsequent plans have been made to ensure they fit into the society and earn a living to fend for themselves and their families.
